Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Awesome marinara, great deals for a couple date and the desserts are addictive. The interior is dated however the food is worth a trip to the 70s.

I'm sorry to say this was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Our salads were disappointing. The veal was as tough as leather. I've never had tough veal before. The pasta was over cooked, and the sauce was runny. Although we were greeted promptly and courteously at the door, the service after that was not good. To finish it all off, when we were done, the waitress presented us with a tray of dirty dishes and waited for us to 'bus' our own table! That was a new experience.

This place is a hidden gem - hidden among a slew of fast food restaurants. There is a certain ambiance that is hard to explain. It's not fancy at all, but it is authentic. The soups are delicious. (We've tried them all.) The main courses are good across the board. They even gladly accommodated a vegan in our group. The desserts are homemade, and are terrific. The service is also excellent. And you get all of this for a very reasonable price. Suffice it to say that whenever we are in the vicinity, we don't pass by Mama Stella's. You shouldn't either.

After receiving a restaurant.com.gift card, I researched the possible restaurants I could choose, and picked this one. The restaurant was pretty crowded, which made me feel good. (That usually means it's pretty good) Our waiter, Grif, came to the table... he was very friendly, joked with us, and he definitely knew his stuff! My husband and I got lasagna, which was very good! My son got the chicken parm, which he loved also. The only negative thing I'd have to say about this place, is the live music was definitely not the greatest at all. It was a little out dated, but I'm not there to give them decor lessons. The food was good. The staff was kind. It was clean. And we had a nice time. I love Italian food, so I'm definitely hard to please in that area. But I'd go back!

I made the drive down to southern MD today to try out Mama Stella's and I must say I was impressed. I'm tired of all the franchise restaurant's that don't truly appreciate your business. From the moment me and my date walked in we were made to feel at home. The food was very good and the prices were even better. This is a small family owned place that really takes care of their customers. Our server was Sam and she was a sweetheart. We will definitely be returning.

Ate here a few months ago. The food was okay. I ordered chicken Alfredo and it's probably the worst I've ever had. Begged to have my husband switch with me. He ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was really good.

Second time we have gotten take out from here. The lasagna is good and I usually only like my own. The pasta is good also. Was a little disappointed the first time that they didn't have homemade Caesar dressing. This time I got their house creamy Italian and it's good.

The Chicken Parmigiana is DELICIOUS! I love the bread and salad that comes with your meal also. The House dressing is like an italian vinegarette with dill and parmesan cheese in it. Great to dip your bread in too! The kids loved the spaghetti with meatballs and their pizza. They are also very accomadating for large party's. We had a work function there. Would definately recommend to visiting family!

Went to Stella's on June 5 2012 for dinner. Found the place simply by using my Yelp mobile app looking for restaurants near my home - I have never heard of this place and they said they had been open for 5 years. VERY GOOD! We enjoyed it - I ordered veal picatta - was very good - bread served at table was excellent - very reasonable prices - will return.

For years and years, we have gone to Mama Stella's in Clinton and have never had less than a great meal. We decided to try out the Bryans Road Mama Stela's this evening, and it was awesome...even better than Clinton! The crowd was an older crowd, for the most part, mostly couples and a few families with kids. There were about 10 parties there this evening. It was a quiet crowd. The restaurant appeared to be clean. Our waitress was very good, as was the other wait staff. We never had to ask for a re-fill, never had a dirty plate on the table for more than a minute. Everyone was very friendly. I give them 10 stars for service! We tried the New England clam chowder, for starters, along with calamari. The clam chowder was OUT OF THIS WORLD! It was creamy and had a splash of sherry, and was probably the best clam chowder we have ever had. This soup, alone, will have me back in this restaurant. The calamari was also awesome! They were lightly battered and fried, but not greasy or chewy. They were cooked perfectly! My honey thought these were the best calamari he has ever had! The salad that comes with dinner was fine...nothing great, nothing bad. I think I would have preferred romaine lettuce rather than iceberg, and maybe some other, and more, accompaniments rather than a slice of cucumber and half a slice of tomato, and chick peas.... if anything needs a little work, I would say it is the salad. We had ordered blue cheese dressing, but after reading the review this evening, I think I will try the Italian dressing next time. The rolls were good, although they were served cold with cold butter. I think that the improvement might be to warm up the rolls and serve the butter at room temp so it spreads easier. Or, with a little drizzle of olive oil for dipping...But, the rolls were good...very good. My dinner... YUM, YUM, YUM! I had Scalloppine Alla Chef Giani (after I ho-hummed about Bryans Road not serving the veal in the light lemon sauce, veal piccata, like Clinton), I exchanged my pasta for veggies (I went in there thinking I could stick with my low carb diet, and ordered this before I cheated and ate the rolls!). The serving was large, the sauce was a light marsala sauce that was delicious! There was a lot of veal and it was tasty and good! The veggies I swapped out were garlicky and delicious. I ate about half of my meal and packed up the rest for lunch tomorrow! I cannot wait for lunch tomorrow! My honey had Scaloppine Fiorentina and loved it! He orders this at the Clinton Mama Stella's, and he said it was a little different here, in Bryans Road....but he said he liked it better! The serving was large, the cream sauce was delicious, and the veal was very good too! He said he would order this again. He must have said "that was delicious" ten times on our way home! In general, the portions seem much larger here, in Bryans Road, than in Clinton. Prices are great! Our dinners were $17 each...we both had water (they were out of iced tea), so our total bill, with dinner, clam chowder and calamari was $52. That was a deal for a super meal! We will be back... probably before next Saturday! So excited to see that they are also open for lunch since we are in this area several days out of each week! We both HIGHLY RECOMMEND Mama Stella's in Bryans Road if you are looking for great Italian food, great service and a great value!

I got carryout from here on May 8 2014. When I arrived the place smelled like old cigarette and mold. It was hot no AC . The lighting was horrible. I couldnt understabd why the peopke that was in there were in there. Must be the drinks. The waiter was also the host so I had to wait for her to finish what she was doing before she came to assist me. Finally got my food. It was in white boxes which I hate. They wrapped each box in plastic wrap 100 times it seemed like. Got home 5 min later. Salad was dead but not horrible, the food. The food looked like I needed to call Gordon Ramsey and nominate MaMa Stella's for kitchen nightmares. Its looked disgusting. I just knew it would taste horrible. I tried it anyway. Chicken Parmesan was stringy and tasted nasty. I also had a Alfredo which I asked for no chicken and chicken was in it . I took the large pieces of chicken out . They were colorless and smelled weird. The Alfredo sauce was bland.I added some salt , garlic powder and it tasted a whole lot better. I also had to make some garlic bread using the plain bread they gave. I will never order from this place again. I will never recommend it to anyone. Horrible waste of time and money. I'm going to call kitchen nightmares on that one.

Just had a very nice dinner here on a Monday night. After reading the reviews, we kind of knew what we were getting, and the reviews were spot on. It was a treat to find a descent Italian restaurant in the Indian Head area.

This place is a treasure. Nice decor, great service, good drinks, and terrific food. I am really surprised every time I come here that it isn't packed. The locals must not know what they've got going here for them.

Every once in a while you will stumble upon a jewel in your neighborhood. I've dined many places, but this time I happened upon Mama Stella's. What caught my eye were the dining specials that they had advertised, so my hubby and I dropped in for "date" night dining. The restaurant looks authentic Italian, with the colors of Italy, with a slightly Old World feel. Brightly colored walls and clean surroundings welcome you to dine at a booth or a table. The wait staff is friendly. All pasta dishes are under ten dollars at this time. I had to try the lamb chops. They were savory with a hint of Rosemary ,accompanied by rice and mixed vegetables and as juicy as expected. The Veal was on the money, prepared in the traditional style of Northern Italy, served with Parmesan and pasta. And of course the calamari, was light and crisp accompanied by Marinara sauce. Mama Stella's is a wonderful place to bring your family. It is a good place to hold events for special occasions,. it can accomodate groups both large and small. Mama Stella's can definitely can hold its own in a league of world class dining establishments. Located 14 miles South of National Harbour

Fairly standard Italian restaurant. The only thing that makes it stand out is that it's the only thing that APPROACHES fine dining within a 15 minute drive of Indian Head. Oh, and the cheesecake. Real, baked cheesecake. LOVE going here for cheesecake and coffee. We had the rehearsal dinner for our wedding here, too, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I'd recommend it for a large party; we got a large room to ourselves and had an excellent buffet. They do live music sometimes on the weekend, and once we found ourselves in the bar area. It was a bit loud for our tastes (we were out with my parents and my soon to be Mother-in-Law, so it was hard to talk), so be sure that if you don't want the music that you ask to be seated in one of the other rooms.

Considering this is in Indian Head this was a nice surprise. It was nicer than I thought it would be on the inside. I was thinking I was going to get some mediocre/"crappy" Italian food -- which I would have been completely fine with (sometimes I just feel like the real basic Italian food nothing fancy, just some plain Ragu Italian sauce), so I was going to order the Spaghetti and meatballs, but once I saw the menu I changed my mind. I got the lasagna (I know not too different from spaghetti and meatballs) but it was very good. My husband got the veal with a white wine sauce and garlic, onion and peas - VERY good. This place really surprised me. I was down for boring food but ended up with a very good meal. They brought out a salad (came with our entrees) that were small but no complaining here. The downside to the salad was that it had too much dressing. I usually ask for it on the side and didn't. They brought out hot bread as well. The proportions were just right. We got full but not stuffed. However, we didn't finish our meals and got the Tiramisu and coffee for dessert to share. It was decent. It wasn't the best Tiramisu ever but we are in Indian Head. For the price and location it was a great time. Ther service was very good too. However, we weren't in a rush so towards the end when we wanted a check he didn't give it to us right away but that didn't bother us. They kept up with refills and bread and everything else. I would recommend this place. Price were very reasonable since it is all good food, good service and location. We each had full meals and desert for around 30.00

Since last, Stella's has dropped their prices and added better entrees. Service is still wanting, but I'm much more pleased with the food.

Stopped by on a yelp search to see what this restaurant is about, hoping to find a neighborhood gem close to home. The restaurant is nice looking, surprisingly big inside with a few of old world charm but plus a big screen TV in the corner and other smaller ones at the bar. The wait staff are nice, friendly, knowledgeable and capable. The bread was fantastic... Fresh, warm, crusty slices of Italian campagna. We loved that with fresh butter. Mental note to come back to enjoy this bread again.... The most of the meals come with a house salad ( basic garden with a few chickpeas) and side pasta. The salads were very tasty as a first course. We also got some calamari. This dish came quickly, perfectly cooked with a light batter. It was a pleasure to eat the calamari, very lightly crunchy, baby squid tips pockets and tentacles along a very nice tomato marina sauce that came with it. So far, the batting was 3 for 3! Next part is the main dish. I ordered Eggplant Parmesan with a side of Clam Linguini. My husband got one of the veal dishes with mushroom, wine sauce, topped with Serrano ham and mozzarella cheese. We tasted our entrees and that's when the show rolls to a halt. My eggplant was tough, I can't cut it with my dinner knife! I tried other corners of it and in the center with no avail. I tasted the bread coating, sauce and cheese and it was fine. So the culprit was a tough eggplant which make me put this dish aside. Then I go over to the clam linguini, a great favorite of mine. It tasted strange with a strong note of fennel in it, making the whole dish to loose its briny clam flavor and depth of taste. There is no garlic and onions, olive oil or wine taste to give this dish the usual Unami expected of a great white clam sauce. The baby clam water, fennel, parsley and maybe a little bits of some kind of vegetable, maybe fennel bulb or celery root. Like I said, strange and not satisfying. Oh we'll, I as full any way from the first part of the meal. My husband dish was OK, nothing special, the sauce lacks bite and depth in its seasoning. My husband said the dish is more like a stew than a sauté as there is so much sauce covering the entire dish. We were so bump out that we don't even want to look at desserts. The waitress was so nice about it and took the eggplant right out of the final bill. So the verdict, we can come back for bread, salads and appetizers only! I might give this rule for a tempting dinner specials.

We ordered carry-out. Shrimp Fiorentina (jumbo shrimp, white sauce, over linguini) and Chicken Marsala, comes with garden salad and bread/butter, for about $30. The Italian dressing was SO good, it has a dill flavor...oh so good! The bread is great, and we thoroughly enjoyed our entrees! My fiancée didn't think I'd ever enjoyed a meal more....I can't wait to eat there again.
